Functional characteristics

The Overhead Switch-Disconnector has the following functions: • Operation at rated load; • Closing in short circuit; • Effective isolation according to standard IEC 62271-102.

Components

The device consists of the following components:

  • Switch with mounting bracket for support on the Pole;
  • Manual control with actuation tube located at the base;
  • Surge protectors (optional);
  • Voltage transformers (optional);

• Union and transfer tubes.

Structural features

SF6 switch disconnectors are designed to be integrated correctly into the natural environment: compact, equipped with a protection system against volatiles, etc.

The cut-off and control device as well as the connections are located inside the metal cube is enveloped in an atmosphere filled with SF6 gas; Thus the devices are protected against adverse weather and environmental conditions, such as corrosion, wind, industrial pollution, etc. It also facilitates maintenance since only the wiring with the medium voltage line, the position indicator and the control lever are located outside the device.

In addition, the production of Overhead Switches follows a process and uses materials that ensure minimal leakage rate (sealed for life).

Actuation Device

The Overhead Switch opening and closing mechanism includes:

  • A self-extinguishing insulating chamber

It consists of a rotating copper moving contact and two fixed contacts for each phase (copper coated with silver to provide electrical conductivity). The cut occurs at two points simultaneously.

  • Actuation mechanism

The actuation of the switch is carried out by a single spring mechanism, which performs the maneuver independently of the speed of the operator. The spring loads and unloads by turning the lever in either direction. The mechanism has two positions (open or closed).

Operation

The spring, mentioned above, is actuated by a rotating shaft attached to the switch. The maneuver can be carried out by:

  1. Insulated pole (not included),
  2. Rotary transmission lever and tube;
  3. IA74 type swing control

The operating mechanism and the open-closed position indicators are housed inside a painted stainless steel frame sealed with a gasket.

An indicator linked to the movements of the switch contacts ensures the indication of its position: open or closed. The latter is thus perfectly visible from the support base where the device is located.

MV Connexions

The switch-disconnector can be equipped with:

Anchoring

The device includes a support piece for the tower on which it is installed.

This support piece is a universal type for all types of post (concrete, metal, or wood)

Vertical mounting: manual control at the base

The equipment is operated locally from the support base where it is installed by the rotary tube and lever.

The system includes a manually operated button at the base of the tower operated by a lever with the possibility of mechanical locking by a padlock. The equipment and the control are physically connected by a 1” tube.

The control base has two positions:

  • OPEN and locked
  • CLOSED and locked

Horizontal installation: manual control by pole

The disconnect device (not included) is operated locally from the support base through an isolated pole. Both positions can be locked.

Horizontal Installation: Manual Override by Overhead Switch Control

Equipment in the horizontal position is operated locally from the base through an IA74 type control. This manually operated control is physically connected to the device via a 1″ tube.

Optional equipment

As an option, it is possible to include a surge arrester directly mounted on the equipment.

This equipment does not require any additional operations, it is pre-assembled at the factory to ensure correct operation. All three or six surge protectors are mounted on a support which is fixed directly to the equipment.
